Photo Gallery Project

(Green Lattice Version)

Blue Version

A Visit to a Butterfly Garden Version
Other photo album projects - 1 and 2  and 3 and 4 and 5

This project is another type of photo album. I've created all the photos and the graphics used in the project and have the core pieces available on this page for download. The title page and the table of contents page appear to be the same; however, when you click on the photos in the table of contents, they take you to the particular frame it is referencing. The frame design is both decorative and utilitarian. Small "dots" on the corners of the frame are for navigation. From the 3rd frame onward, I have also put a small "T of C" graphic in the bottom center to represent the Table of Contents frame. With the graphic combined with a GoTo object on top for each frame, the end-user has access to non-linear navigation.

Having done a couple of these, I'm going to suggest that you make yourself a quick sketch of the grid and note down the titles of each picture in each square of the grid before beginning the project. Also, number the frames so you know which way you organized your photos. You're going to need that information on frame 2 when you set up the GoTo objects to make the thumbnails interactive.

While the green lattice works appears to be filled with holes, it actually isn't. This can be puzzling to beginners as they will attempt to nudge pictures on the bottom layer by "reaching" through the transparent sections of the lattice work. Sorry - think of it as a picture frame with glass in each segment. You need to move it out of the way first before you can rearrange the items behind!

I've done this one in green. There's another one in blue you can look at by checking out this link.

One thing I did was to use both the white border and the green border together. It not only made a solid block that the picture couldn't be seen through, it also made it look as if the picture was getting some hidden light from somewhere. You'll notice that I didn't do that on the blue photo gallery on the other page and that changes the overall effect. Of course, there are lots of much more sophisticated approaches using graphic manipulation programs to get that effect. This is just my simple suggestion.

Extensions to the project:
I've done the Photo Gallery project in both eZediaQTI and eZediaMX. What that means is that there are a wide variety of extensions that can be included for this project. Consider:
1. Having the name of the flower or object spoken aloud by including an audio file
2. Provide the option of a link to a webpage that will provide authoritative information on the flower or object
3. Include a link to an object vr you've created where they can rotate the object
4. Link additional projects - perhaps you've developed one on each type of object represented in the grid
