eZedia QTI2 -
Mac and
Windows What started out as a
project going one direction, ended up as a piano! If you recall those
simple little miniature pianos we had as children, then you're well on
your way to understanding this QTI2 project.
The project plays in a single frame. As you click on a key, it will be highlighted in blue. This lets you know which keys you can "play." The nice part is that as you experiment, you'll notice that you can go back and keep playing on the keys without downloading the project again. The project is a simple experiment with Button Objects. You can find more information and examples about Button Objects by going to: Samuel's Journey Button Object Information on other "how-to's in QTI2 can be found on this site, too. How I created this project 1. We took a picture of my piano and then I enhanced it a bit to clean it up. I created individual blue key covers but that certainly isn't necessary to make the project work. 2. I also created the sound files for the individual notes on the piano. 3. I then went into QTI2, added my piano graphic to the background and then brought in my sound files. 4. I created Button Objects that covered the thick part of the white keys and all of the black keys. Each Button Object had two links. One link went to the blue highlight graphic which would appear (and stay there) as you click on the note. The other link goes to the sound file associated with that key. For the sake of orgnization in my QTI2 working file, I lined up the sound files half and half on the left and right sides of the keyboard that were unused. The pattern for the links was very easy to see and I could quickly spot if I missed any connections. ![]() This little piano project can play via the web or it can play on individual machines that aren't hooked up to the Internet. Remember that QTI2 projects don't have to be online to work. To "play" this piano online, you'll need to have QuickTime loaded on your machine (if you don't have it already, that will be a little strange). You can find the piano project here. Suggestion: The project is relatively small - only about 600 KB. Give it a moment to load on your machine. Click on each of the keys to load the sound file into cache on your computer. September 20th Comment: I'm not entirely happy with my sampling of Bflat. I'll try and get that changed. It's a little "short." Sorry about that!
