Animation in eZediaMX
Here's a link to a short instructional movie in RealPlayer showing you how to create an animation from start to finish in eZediaMX!
New animation - I've done a quick animation for a friend. I see it as a story starter for something called "Harley's Hallowe'en." Harley is the bat. The animation shows Harley beginning his adventure as he crossed the night sky in front of a giant harvest moon.
You can find Harley through this link.

Harley was joined by a friend later. This character is sort of a cousin to Casper the Friendly Ghost. What you can see in this animation is how you start with one. Create it. Save it. Then you can go back to your first frame and introduce another character. Very simple - but exceptionally powerful in terms of ease of use.
Harley and Casper's Cousin are here.

Animations are very, very simple when you use eZediaMX. Check out my "Toaster" movie that I did this evening. It's 200 KB: the "Toaster" is available for viewing here.

Until very recently, powerful, cross-platform multimedia software was pretty much too difficult and too expensive to be considered for use in most classrooms. HyperStudio has always been the traditional workhorse in this arena. eZediaMX represents a new way of approaching this experience that avoids scripting yet allows for extremely powerful tools to be available at a mouse click. We've seen it tried with everyone from preschool to post-secondary. What distinguishes the software from some other types at this point in time is that it also has an amazing logic section that creates a powerful critical-thinking environment for students. August - 2004 - I have to apologize for the delay in taking the time to put links on this page to new projects that have been up on the site. I promise to try and do better! Projects and resources are now beginning for QTI2. Watch for them.

Check out the links for photo manipulation on the main Photos page. These are simple techniques for beginners.

Welcome to Multimedia!
  1. What is eZediaMX? What is eZediaQTI?
  • The answer to that question is just above.
  • To find out about eZedia's QTI (and you will want to), click here. A discussion, screen captures, and a simple project is available for download. If you've got QuickTime, you can view the project without problems.
  • Update - There are now QTI projects scattered all through this website. Frequently, I'll do an eZediaMX version and a QTI version. You might want to check out the eZedia sampler pages to do a quick check on all the different projects. I'll try to round them up at some point and give you a list to just the QTI projects.
  1. How might I use eZedia in the classroom?
  • eZedia in the Classroom
  • eZedia Sampler pages - I've put 1-frame thumbnails of the projects on 3 pages. They're not all there but you might find it easier to negotiate ideas with pictures rather than trying to remember what I called it.
  1. Do you have some examples of projects that I can use in the classroom?
  1. Are there simple instructions that will help me get acquainted with the eZediaMX environment?
  1. Is there a list of variations that will help me think how I can combine the cool features in eZediaMX in different ways to get multiple effects without a lot of work?
  1. Tell me/show me how I can do some things! (See #3, as well.)
Being a teacher, and not a graphic artist, I tend to use features in eZediaMX to let me achieve nice effects with minimum effort. The techniques outlined in this section give you some examples of what I did and what I ended up with so you can do the same thing if you want or come up with your own variation. The critical point is that none of this takes more than a couple of minutes.
  1. Examples of the variations you can get for a frame with just a picture and a rectangle
  2. Again, just using a simple picture and a couple of rectangles
  3. Creating a raised title from nothing muchTechniques and Ideas 3
  4. Playing with framingTechniques and Ideas 4
  5. Taking a panoramic vr (360 degree picture) and using the "hotspots" in the vr to create 1-frame wonders!
  6. Using images from the collection of photos at the site to create backgrounds for multimedia projects - Ideas1
  7. Alternative backgrounds - a little wild!
  1. How do I . . . .???
  1. How do I . . .bring in a graphic?
  2. How do I . . .change the transparency level of a picture so the color looks much softer?
  3. How do I . . . get rid of the white stuff around a picture?
  4. How do I . . .create a drop-down menu to navigate a project?
  5. Create navigation buttons
  6. Rollover with photo recipe - shows how to take a single picture and turn it into a rollover button that changes color and then acts as a button to make something else happen
  7. How do I mask a movie? (In other words, cut out a movie in a different shape!)
  8. Line things up (use the align feature!!) Here's a quick demonstration of how to use the align feature.
  9. How do I create an animation in eZediaMX? Very simply! I've done an instructional movie using RealPlayer that is available here.
  10. Internet Explorer is not displaying projects correctly after Service Pack 2 was installed. How do I change this?
8. Use the Logic Tools to Create Questions in a Project

A. Create a question using the MultiChoice Object where the user clicks on a single choice and then receives feedback on their answer.

B.  Create a question using the Container Object where the user types in an answer and receives feedback.

C. Create a question using the Menu Object where the user selects an answer from a drop-down list of possibilities in response to a picture.

D. Using the Container Object in multiple ways on a single frame to accept answers and provide feedback in conjunction with a Branch Object.
