Photos

We've found ourselves making extensive use of digital cameras, especially as the quality of the images has improved, along with the price! We're going to share some of those photos with you at this website. While we retain copyright of the photos, we do grant people permission to use them for educational purposes as long as they aren't making money off of them in any manner. So, for example, if you're using them as backgrounds for a project that goes on a cd you're going to sell, you're going to have to get specific, written permission from us. No exceptions! Also, you can't post our photos at your site. You can link to them, however.
One of the reasons we want to share the photos with you is that we want you to see what it is possible to produce with little effort. We hope it stimulates you to have your students take another look around their world to capture images that are meaningful to them.
We know that many of you have found your way to our photo pages. We have established a second site that we will probably use for the majority of our photos. They are in a searchable, online database. We have them organized by category and sub-categories. We will continue to post highlights and related information at this site and link to the other.

To check out the resources at the new site, go to: http://photos.jmadden.info
The site is relatively undeveloped except for the photos and graphics we keep tossing up there at the moment.

Photo Manipulation
Microsoft Photo Editor (free on every Windows computer)
There is a brief page of examples of effects you can get with photos when using Microsoft Photo Editor. Because of its limitations, we don't use it much ourselves. However, most people have it on their machine. Here are some "how-to's" of special effects using that Photo Editor.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 2
This section discusses how to use the magnetic lasso feature to outline a section of a photograph to manipulate it in some way - apply a special filter, copy to a new layer, copy to a new image, cut it out, etc. There is a simple, how-to feature that lets you see how it is used.
These short instructions will give you a quick way to create some fancier graphics if you haven't yet been experimenting. Examples are provided. The page includes a link to a movie showing how to do it.

Photos are great for creating animations. To see how simply you can combine photos and graphics to create an animation in eZediaMX, check out this link to an instructional movie.
